McL-10H Guided Boring, Rock The new Versa-Mole from McLaughlin gives contractors a choice of underground installation methods to accommodate both their soil and job conditions. The 5' or 7' drilling unit allows set up in confined areas where use of a surface launched directional drill is not possible. Ideal for urban areas, the Versa-Mole can operate dry or with drilling fluids. This powerful drill has over 1,000 ft.*lbs. of torque and 17,670 lbs of thrust. Hole diameters up to 12" are possible depending on soil conditions and drilling method used.

McL-12HB Hydraulic Powered An innovative concept in horizontal auger boring systems, the Zipper is designed for speed and use in limited easement areas. A short carriage enables setup in trench only 6' long. 4"-6"-8" and larger cased bores, using PVC or steel pipe in 10' sections, can be performed in only a 13' long trench. Powered by your backhoe, and McL-2000 or McL-3000 Power Pack, twin hydraulic cylinders located on the bore centerline produce 24,500 lbs. forward thrust @ 2,500 psi. The powerful hydraulic motor delivers 1030 ft. lbs. torque to the drive chuck, and the variable speed valve controls auger rotation to 120 rpm.

McL-20B Gasoline Powered This rugged horizontal boring system is designed to install casing up to 20" diameter for less cost than other construction methods. Features include an OPC hydraulic clutch to reduce wear and protect the drive train, and a pistol grip control which governs auger rotation and forward thrust. Safety features include a chuck adapter for pinning the auger without reaching into the casing pusher, a protective door on the spoil ejection chute, carriage roller guards and an emergency shutoff switch on the control console.

McL-24B Air-Cooled Diesel Powered This state-of-the-art horizontal boring machine is powered by a high torque Deutz air-cooled diesel engine with proven dependability. Performance improvements include longer stroke twin hydraulic rams that deliver 115,000 lbs. forward thrust, a 37% increase over competitive models; hydraulic dog plate that's operated from the control console; a single hand grip that controls both auger rotation and thrust; OPC hydraulic clutch to reduce maintenance and extend service life; foot operated track brake; and an extended casing pusher for increased spoil ejection.

McL-30/36B Diesel Powered In addition to featuring dramatically increased performance capabilities, this new 10" to 36" capacity diesel powered auger boring system enables the standard 30" casing pusher assembly and spoil ejector to be replaced with a 36" master pusher by simply removing six bolts. Another McLaughlin first!

McL-48/54 Turbo Charged Diesel Powered The largest and most powerful auger boring machine in the McLaughlin line, this heavy-duty new unit develops a massive 950,000 lbs. forward thrust and 170,000 ft. lbs. peak auger torque for case boring to 54" in all types of soil. The power train includes an air-cooled 6-cylinder turbo charged diesel engine that develops 162 hp, electromagnetic clutch, 5-speed transmission with reverse, and planetary reduction final drive to the 4" hex chuck. The low profile (only 32.5" bore c_) and electric Operator Presence Control (OPC) greatly reduce the risk of roll over, a very important feature on high-torque machines. Other features include extended triple-cylinder stroke and auto hydraulic dog plate to increase boring efficiency and speed. The split-design reduces weight to ease machine positioning.

McL-54/60 The McL-54/60 is set up to push 60" diameter casing. In the photograph the crew is welding another 20' section of casing to the string of what will be 200' in total length. This unit can case-bore from 20" diameter to 60" diameter. With 950,000 pounds of thrust and 170,000 foot-pounds of torque, this unit can handle your most challenging job requirements. Features include automated thrust, hydraulic clutch, hydraulic dog plate with indicator lights, and centralized controls, making this a very easy unit to operate.
